Eugene Sartory circa 1925

April 1, 2024

There is something about these later bows from the now mature Eugene Sartory, he really is in full control of what is important for the player. This bow, complete with a 1994 Jean-Francois Raffin certificate has a fair amount of wear, always the sign of a fine playing bow! At some point it has sustained a very slight bit of damage to the head, invisible to the eye this is only detectable using ultra violet light and truly is of no concern.

It is a delight to use and really tackles the most complex of music in its stride on stage, personally, I love using it.

Sartory is the ‘go to’ maker for many players, all serious players should own at least one of his stupendous bows.

The original pearl is an understated tour de force aesthetically, as said earlier, he really knows what is important in a stick at this point. Note also the original face!

My objective is to bring fine bows to players, to advise on suitability of bows for various playing styles and to marry appropriate bows to clients’ violins. I am committed to restoring fine bows to their former glory both from a historical and an ecological standpoint.
